Red Tomato (Egypt), 2015
Founded in Cairo in 2011, Red Tomato (Outa Hamra in Arabic) is a clowning and social theater group that aims to create high standard drama practices serving to develop the society, with a focus on the marginalized, such as refugees, street children and low-income communities. They are a team of artists from different backgrounds and nationalities who came together with the belief that change is important and can be fun, and that learning should be pleasurable and collaborative. The slogan of Red Tomato is “To have fun is our serious business”. The group concentrates on street theater to present its social and awareness projects. With its interactive clown shows in the streets and villages of Egypt it reaches the most needing and marginalized audience. The group also puts emphasis on drama workshops as a pedagogic tool to stimulate social creativity and cooperation.
